Learn the vowels first! In 14 minutes, we want you to learn the long and short sounds of the vowels. Go over this section until you can pass our test at the end of the lesson… easily done as you give yourself a test with instant answers. The vowels are the glue that hold our English language together. We introduce innovative teaching techniques not found in any other reading program. Perfect for beginners and adults of all ages. To read words you have never seen before, you have to know all the phonetic sounds that are included in our 21 videos. Our program is designed to make learning to read easy and enjoyable with entertaining pictures.

Lesson 8 - Consonant Blends + Vowels

Discover how this silent letter at the end of word can alter the vowel sound. The easy to learn “Silent E” rule is applied in many everyday words. Most words contain the short sounds of words. This silent letter at the end of words changes the short vowel sound to a long vowel sound. The lesson concludes with a test that makes sure you can easily transfer the vowel sounds from short to long. Take the test with instant answers and see that the easy rule is not always as easy as you think.

Another must lesson to learn! Diphthongs and digraphs are extremely important in our English pronunciation. What is good about them is that they stay constant with the same sound… most of the time! Diphthongs are sounds formed by the combination of two or more vowels in a single sound that has totally no relation to the sound of any of the vowels within the word. Digraphs make one sound, which is usually the sound of the first letter of the two vowels. Learning the 20 diphthongs and digraphs is a must!!! The lesson concludes with a test.

Explore the 7 different ways you can pronounce “AUGH and OUGH” words! These combinations can be tricky as they appear in words with varied and sometimes unexpected pronunciations. This video will guide you through the different sounds associated with these letter groups. Learn the one sound that half of the “augh and ough” words contain. This video contains a list of the “augh and ough” words. The video concludes with your having to read the words that contain “augh and ough”.

Did you know that 8` different letter combinations can produce the sound of the letter… A…? The letter “E” also can be created with 8 different spellings. In this video there are 16 pictures in which each unique picture contains a picture with images and the combinations of letters that form that same sound. You will enjoy Ronald Knobloch’s pictures. “Knobby”, was the creator and artist of all of our pictures in our program. Pictures help us remember 5 times faster! By understanding all the combinations of these letters, you'll enhance your spelling, pronunciation and comprehension. Our lesson ends with a test of the content.

The placement of a letter or group of letters can sound differently at the start of a word compared to the middle and end of a word. The lesson concludes with a test to ensure you have mastered these concepts.

This video explores 107 endings. Some are a review of the common endings already in the program, but many are more difficult complex endings with ... such as the “que”… that has 2 sounds as in the words antique & tongue. There are some simple rules to help you pronounce the last syllable of words with many syllables. Go over these endings until you can read and spell them. Remember endings can be pronounced differently than the same letters at the beginning of a word.
